Frequently Asked Questions
It's important to us to answer any question you may have. In fact, we welcome your questions. Below are answers to some of the questions we are frequently asked.
What does it mean to be a Baptist Church?
This means our church believes the basic Bible teachings for which Baptists have historically stood. As Baptists, we believe the following: the Bible is our sole authority for all matters of faith and practice. The church should be autonomous or self-governing. The believer does not need a priest, other than Jesus Christ, to come boldly to God. Every Christian has equal access to God personally. God's Word gives us two ordinances for the church-baptism and the Lord's Supper. Each person is individually responsible for his decision to accept Christ. The separation of church and state is biblical. The believer is eternally secure and cannot lose salvation. There are two biblical offices in the church—pastors and deacons. Please contact us for a more detailed account of our beliefs and we’ll be glad to send you a copy of our Statement of Faith with supporting Scriptures.
What does it mean to be an independent church?
As an independent Baptist church, we are not affiliated with any particular Baptist denomination or ruling body. Because of this we can support our own missionaries, select our own leaders and support institutions that believe as we believe. In short, our church answers to the headship of Jesus Christ rather than a denominational body. There are thousands of independent Baptist churches in America and more throughout the world.
Is Childcare available during services?
Yes, childcare is available during services for infants and toddlers. Sunday School classes are available for all ages and Children’s Church runs concurrently with the Sunday Morning Worship Service.
What should I wear?
Although most people wear their “Sunday Best”, there’s no dress code at South Campbell Avenue Baptist Church. We trust that everyone respects the fact that they are going to Church and will dress in a manner that honors God and doesn’t distract from the purpose in attending.
Am I expected to give an offering?
The time set aside for giving is voluntary and allows everyone who would like to participate in supporting the work of the Lord the chance to do so.
Do you use a particular version of the Bible during the services?
We believe that God’s Word has been divinely preserved in the English language in the version commonly known as the Authorized King James Version (KJV). Therefore, the Authorized King James Version is the official and only translation used by the church.
What style of music do you use?
Our music service is designed to magnify Christ and deepen our affection for God. The style and content are carefully selected to direct our thoughts to God’s glory, deepen our appreciation of Christ’s redemption and compel an honest response to God’s word. Hymns that are theologically sound and musically appropriate are chosen to accomplish this goal.
What is required for membership?
To be a member of South Campbell Avenue Baptist Church you must first be saved—have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ—and then be baptized in our church or in a Baptist church of like-faith.
How can I be involved in ministry?
In order to be involved in ministry at our Church there are three requirements. First, you must have a personal testimony of faith in Jesus Christ. Secondly, you must be baptized by immersion following your profession of faith. Finally, you must be a faithfully attending member. Once those three requirements are met, anyone can be involved in volunteer projects in areas such as maintenance and activity-related projects. Service in visible positions of leadership such as teaching or singing must be approved by the Pastor.
